It seemed like a good idea to save this setup for posterity so I caught some quick pictures of it. I always enjoy looking back on my setups in the past and so it makes sense to take a timestamp at this stage too. In reflection, this frame/bike has definitely jumped the shark. This shit started out as track bikes and now we have.. I don’t even know what, crazy weird pig beasts that are impractical for basically everything but addictive to play with nonetheless.
I’ve had this prototype Volume Vandal since December last year, so almost a year of playing on it. I knew even before I got it that it would be more extreme than what would be ideal but it’s impossible to know what is too far without going there. I can’t wait to get the production version, I’m planning a full bike check video once that one arrives.
Anyways, for now, here’s my current setup, before the new frame arrives and before I build up the new rims I just got from Velocity:
When I found Swoo out front of my house it looked like this:
So, we’re starting to get settled in at the new YNOT location, here’s a shot of the new layout:
Out of view is actually quite a lot of stuff including Tony’s office, our washroom, our new screen printing area and my work station. My area includes the packaging and order processing area and also my bad ass sewing machine Reggie the Reliable:
My area is everything in the left of the shot, the various nice girls that work for us use the 3 machines to the right and the cutting station at the end. We made all the tables in the foreground and have put a buttload of work into getting this new space dialed! It`s really fun to keep building this mountain and riding the wave!
Btw, Ruby is huge now!
Been super frantic every day at YNOT, we just moved studios again. It was a year ago I made this post about the last time we moved. I took pics of the new space but I’ll take a few more when it’s fully finished getting dialed, we’ve been spending the last week and a half getting all the new workspaces sorted and making the place work right.
I went out riding the other day and my buddy Nick Iwanyshyn came out to try to catch some pictures in the fading light. Video seemed to work better and he got some okay clips I think. Here’s a grainy shot he passed on to me of me working on learning luc-e grinds:
Pretty soon I should be able to catch my breath and start posting more regularly. It’s always the case that when cool things are going on those things make me too busy to post about them!
Just for fun, here’s a shot of my Volume Vandal in it’s current state. It’s about to change a bunch when I get the production version and when I switch to the new rims I just got in the mail from Velocity so I feel the need to preserve this in a picture for posterity.
(I went downstairs to take a shot of my bike and then ran into Swoo and then we went and had a really awesome session riding together! Will take pic and share tomorrow!)
After the Mini Drome I rushed off to meet my family at a cottage that was loaned to us for the weekend. It just happened to be Canadian Thanksgiving so we had an awesome smoked Turkey and lots of whiskey and board games. Here are a few shots my mom snapped!
I love this one, this is the moment I discovered I could walk on water:
I dragged Marnie around the lake for a while, it was more efficient than I anticipated:
My mom actually egged me on to do this and then made me do it over and over as she fiddled with her camera settings, fine by me!
The novelty of spending a weekend at a cottage was not lost on us, we took full advantage of the luxury and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The water was definitely crisp but I was super glad to be out swimming and playing in fresh lakewater.
Flying chest bump!
Our darling puppy Ruby of course came with us, she thrashed wildly with her sister Lucy for hours on end and we caught this shot of her briefly recharging:
It was a great escape from the city and our daily routine!
Just a quick post to remind anyone that checks my blog to also check the YNOT Cycle blog, we’ve been posting there a lot more and there is a lot of great stuff going on with YNOT right now so follow the ‘action’!
One recent happening is a surge of enthusiasm from Korea for our products. They got a big order of them to distribute out there and they are promoting it all big time. It’s so cool to see! Here are a few shots they put up:
I made some of that stuff! haha
On a side note, I just picked up my new GoPro (thanks Mom!!) and I will be producing a lot of video with it immediately! Can’t wait!
Also, I got a really positive response to that wallride pic so Swoo and I are going to get out and shoot some more spots I have in mind!
Swoo took these shots of me hitting this curved wall I’ve stared at for so long. The pics just went up on the Volume site, the new Vandals should be available soon, sick!
Here’s one more angle on the trick that didn’t get posted:
Today I was riding along and I saw this dude walking with some chick and it took me a sec to clue in but then I realized it was Tom LaMarche and his gf. I stopped and gave him a hug and shot the shit a bit but it still caught me off guard because it’s not every day you roll up on one of your biggest inspirations. I was actually watching a bit of the original Bootleg Sessions today and he was on my mind a bit, maybe I conjured him.. probably. Actually, a few nights ago I was waiting for a train and had a few minutes to kill so I rode the drainage ditch by the station. While messing about I decided to, on a whim, hit the gap I hit in my BSV2 part, seen here at 00:30:
Shit, 2008.. It’s a whole different world now!
The Mini Drome was a blast! TONS of people came out to watch and participate and it was a really great event. I was feeling really good in my qualifying laps until my wheel went off the edge of the track and I faceplanted into it! I’ve got some great bruises up my right arm and my face is still pretty sensitive but it was worth it.
Here’s the official video, I get interviewed in it!
RED BULL MINI DROME VIDEO (embed code isn’t working for me..)
Here’s a shot of me right on the edge, not sure if this was just before faceplanting:
My awesome buddy Brad Downie took third in the event! Go Brad!
I got a GoPro for my birthday (which was last week, 29!) so expect LOTS more video content soon!
Not sure how I spaced on posting these here when we first launched them but it’s better late than never!
Tony and I have been honing these designs for the last year or so and we’re really happy with where they’re at. Both bags are available through our website so go check them out and grab one if you’re into them! If you’re pining for a custom one email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we’ll take care of you!
Here’s the video for the Gulper backpack (Med and Large), there are lots of pictures on the page for them on the YNOT site.
Next, the Junction, our single strap bag that comes in three sizes:
Lastly, here’s a video of our buddy Andrew Romashyna, a grizzled messenger and good friend that rides our gear and runs it through the ringer. His friends at Consul Media Group filmed and put this together basically as a gift to YNOT, check it out!
